About Donkeys

by: Marna Kazmaier

A poem about donkeys, what can one say?
Some people don't like them, not even their bray.
Horse people should visit some and see how they act,
Get to know them better, they'll like them it's a fact.
Horses may say to the donkey with retter,
"Anything you can do I can do better."
The donkey will just smile and know in it's loving heart,
That statement is not true, except maybe for that fart.
Both can be ridden, driven and packed,
When it comes to the donkey nothing is lacked.
A donkey goes further and offers you even more,
to guard all your livestock, like those horses you adore.
If you need colts halter broken to learn to lead real nice,
A donkey can do it, a better bet then dice.
When your child is ready and needs a gentle mount,
Get out the donkey and let the child ride about.
Just be careful and be forewarned for you will want to know
Your child will prefer the donkey and that's who they will want to show.
The donkey wins hearts, makes you laugh, and yes it brays,
Soon you will want them around you all the rest of your days.

The Half Breeds

By: Marna Kazmaier
The Horse loved the Donkey and the Donkey loved the Horse.
They weren't suppose to breed that way but they did of course.
One said my mom's a donkey, the other said a horse,
No one really knows the date it happened and no one knows the source.

Their mama's named one "mule", the other they called "hinny",
said the boys would be called "jacks" and the girls they called "jenney".
No wait, that's not right, call them Mollys
call the boys Jakes by golly,

Kings of old rode them, check this out in your Bible,
I am sure they found them surefooted and to have no rival.
Trail riders, cowboys, wagon drivers as well,
love the donkey/horse offspring and if you ask they will tell
Of times the animals saved their lives
rather be with them then some of their wives!!

A Fun Song Found on the Internet

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Was you ever in Quebec,
Launchin' timber on the deck,
Where ya break yer bleedin' neck,
Ridin' on a donkey?

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Was you ever 'round Cape Horn
Where the weather's never warm,
Wished to God you'd never been born,
Ridin' on a donkey?

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Was you ever in Miramichi,
Where ye tie up to a tree,
An' the girls sit on yer knee,
Ridin' on a donkey?

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Was you ever in Fortune Bay?
See the girls all shout, "Hooray!
Here comes dad with ten weeks pay,
Riding on a donkey."

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Was you ever in London-town?
See the King he does come down,
See the King in his golden crown,
Riding on a donkey.

Way hey and away we go,
Donkey riding, donkey riding;
Way hey and away we go,
Ridin' on a donkey.

Lowly Donkeys

by: Marna Kazmaier
If you think the donkey is lowly then you should read and see,
How God used them in the Bible for all of us to see
That even those called "unimportant" hove a special role indeed
Many times those "over looked" were the ones used for the lead
Look at Moses, David and Levi just to name a few
Who in a school class today would be in the whimpey hue
For God raised them up and set them apart
He gave each one of them a loving heart.
Because of them now we will get to go
To Heaven with Jesus who washed us each white as snow.
So next time you've had it with that kid from down the Road,
You don't want to bother, you have no time to dode.
Look at him as Jesus would, take the time from your day,
You may never know who that child may show The Way.
So be like the donkey who carried the Lord with Glee
You will be lifted up in the end and at that moment you will see
The Lowly become the important, blessed and free.
When you look around Heaven at souls you touched, how many will you see?

What Are Donkeys Like

by Marna Kazmaier

Donkeys, Longears, Burros and Asses,
Some people thing they're stubborn and sasses.
Most who have owned them and treated them well,
Are willing and able and wanting to tell,
that donkeys make great pets, and work hard,

(obviously not finished Wink)
